前置詞も英語の勉強で悩ませられます。スコット曰く、英米人から見ても特に理由が無いものが多いとのことなので、覚えるしかないでしょう。　以下、羅列します。

in the newspaper（どの新聞か特定されていなくても必ずtheが必要）

in the street（米語はon the street)
