今日のレッスンから
日本人はbecomeを多用しますが、多くの場合、まちがっているもしくは自然でないようです。
「22歳になる」はbecome22ではなく、turn 22.
I became rich.では無く、I got rich.がベターのようです。
大体の場合、turn, go, get, be を使う方が自然な英語になります。
今度の春に2回生になる場合、becomeは使わず
I am going into 2nd year this spring.
I am going to be in 2nd year.
などと言います。
個人的でなく歴史的なイベントはbecomeを使うとのことです。
Japan became rich.
Obama became president.
また、以下のようにturn, go, get, be で置き換えられない場合もナチュラルです。難しいですね。
became a member of Velco
He became the president of the company.
He became the leader of the Shinsengumi.
